Thursday, January 3rd

Story Club Northside,  The Holiday Club, 4000 North Sheridan, open mic sign up at 7, show starts at 7:30

A favorite live lit night among IOW writers, Story Club has its first show of the new year– starting out with a badass bang.  There’s a cultural critic bird puppet and friend of the site Keith Ecker (formerly of Essay Fiesta, currently of Guts and Glory) and possibly you!  Yes, you, because there are 4 open mic spots open.  Get there early, get a nice drink, enjoy and or be a part of the show.

FKA presents:  Lisa Frank! the Party, Big Chicks, 5024 North Sheridan, 9 pm 

A bright and bedazzled retreat from the cold.  Come to the latest edition of this Northside monthly Queer dance party.

Friday, January 4th

Ardently queer REM frontman Michael Stipe was born today.  Play “Orange Crush” on repeat.

Saturday, January 5th 

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, 11 am -12:30 pm, Howard Brown Health Center, Community Room, 4025 N Sheridan  

This is a weekly, free, peer support group for people living with depression, bipolar, and other psychiatric illnesses.

Youth Speak OUT!, 4 pm, Center on Halsted, 3656 Halsted

A free open mic that gives the stage to the youth to share their work.

CAKE- Queer Chicago Music, 10pm, The Red Line Tap, 7006 North Glenwood 

Listen to the alt country song stylings of Dalice Malice, and Carrie Lydon.

Sunday, January 6th

Family of Women Book Group, 2pm Women and Children First Book, 5233 North Clark

A monthly group that reads works about women and their familial relationships; this month they are discussing Nora Ephron’s Hearthburn.
